2022 Honda HR-V detailed for Australia with hybrid power
The upcoming SUV will launch with petrol and hybrid variants for this market.
Honda Australia has released the first local details for its upcoming all-new 2022 Honda HR-V small SUV – however, the marque is yet to lock in pricing.
Two specifications will be on offer locally: an entry-level, petrol-only Vi X model, and a flagship e:HEV L hybrid.
Both are powered by the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, however the latter picks up a dual-motor hybrid system and extra equipment.
In Japan, the former delivers 87kW/142Nm to the front wheels via a continuously-variable transmission – with Australian models to produce 89kW. That's down 15kW on the outgoing petrol HR-V's 104kW 1.8-litre engine.
The hybrid sends a combined 96kW/253Nm to the front wheels.
LED lights, 18-inch alloys, and adaptive cruise control come fitted as standard across the range, while the e:HEV L adds a powered tailgate, heated steering wheel, heated seats, and acoustic glass.
Inside the cabin, infotainment comes via a centrally-mounted 9.0-inch touchscreen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in both variants.
Standard autonomous safety systems includes forward collision warning, collision mitigation, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic sign recognition. The more expensive model also adds rear cross-traffic alert and an intelligent speed limiter.
Full pricing and specifications for the 2022 Honda HR-V will be announced before the end of this month, with the first showroom examples arriving soon after.
Last year the Japanese brand moved to a fixed-price business model in Australia, with prices rising by as much as $5300 compared to their previous lowest points. You can read that story in full by clicking here.
