2022 BYD Atto 3 deliveries begin in Australia
The Australian distributor for Chinese electric-car brand BYD has posted photos of its first customer delivery in Australia, seven months after orders opened.
The first 2022 BYD Atto 3 electric SUV has been delivered in Australia, according to the brand's distributor, ahead of further customer hand-overs due over the coming weeks.
Images and video posted to BYD distributor EVDirect's Instagram story show the first Atto 3 customers collecting their cars at one of the brand's new Experience Centres in Brisbane.
At least three cars appear to have been delivered, all Extended Range models priced from $47,381 plus on-road costs – and the company promises more customers will collect their car in the coming days.
EVDirect managing director Luke Todd told Drive recently BYD would report its sales figures to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries' (FCAI) monthly VFACTS sales reports, like most other brands.
The announcement of first deliveries comes a day after EVDirect cut its service prices, following backlash from customers towards its high servicing costs, and six-year/150,000km vehicle warranty with exclusions for key vehicle components.
EVDirect claimed in early August it had attracted more than 4000 orders for the Atto 3, since it became available in February – however it is unclear if this remains the case, following threats from owners on social media of order cancellations.
The distributor says BYD in China has the capacity to build up to 3000 cars per month – which, if all of those vehicles are sold, would place it first or second in sales among electric-car brands in Australia.
