2021 Mercedes-Benz EQB spied
The seven-seat electric Mercedes-Benz EQB has been snapped testing in the snow.
Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming EQB electric SUV has been spied undergoing cold-weather testing in Sweden.
The example spotted playing in the snow sports similar amounts of camouflage to EQB prototypes previously snapped by our spy photographers, with moderate disguise only over the front and rear fascias.
Up front the combustion-powered GLB SUV’s conventional grille has been closed off for better aerodynamics, flanked by slim LED headlights and a restyled lower fascia.
At the rear the licence plate has been moved to the lower bumper, suggesting the EQB’s tail-lights will be connected by a full-width light bar, similar to that of the larger EQC EV.
No shots of the interior were captured, though we’d wager the electric SUV’s cabin will closely resemble that of the GLB – dual-screen infotainment system and all – bar some appropriate EQ badging and rose gold accents in the vein of the EQC.
Few details are known about the EQB’s powertrain, though it is known that it will ride on the same front-wheel drive based MFA II platform as the rest of the Mercedes-Benz compact car lineup, consisting of the A-Class, B-Class, CLA, GLA, GLB and the recently-spied, smaller EQA electric crossover.
In order to keep up with competition like the Volvo XC40 Recharge and Tesla Model Y, Benz’s zero-emissions offering would need a range of around of 500 kilometres and a sub-six second 0-100km/h sprint time.
The Mercedes-Benz EQB is slated to go on sale in 2021, with a debut likely set for sometime next year.
