2021 Hyundai Kona N revealed in first official images
The first official images of the 2021 Hyundai Kona N have been released, ahead of the performance SUV's unveiling in the coming weeks.
Up front, the Kona N builds on the sporty look debuted on the mid-tier Kona N Line, with stacked, wide honeycomb grille sections sitting below a trio of faux bonnet vents, and above an extended front splitter with a red accent strip – the lattermost a hallmark design feature among Hyundai's full-fat N models.
The photos show 19-inch forged alloy wheels are shared with the updated i30 N hot hatch, complemented by a red accent strip along the sportier side skirts, and a black contrast roof.
At the rear, a bolder roof spoiler (with a integrated, triangular third brake light) sits atop the tailgate, while an aggressive lower splitter sits below with a red accent and a pair of large-diameter exhaust tips reminiscent of the 2021 i30 N.
Mechanical details are yet to be confirmed, however Hyundai has previously confirmed a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine will sit under the bonnet, exclusively paired to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive.
Drive understands all-wheel-drive won't be offered, nor will a manual transmission.
While outputs have yet to be officially announced, it's expected they will match the figures quoted by the updated i30 N, namely 206kW of power and 392Nm of torque.
Aided by performance features such as launch control, a variable sports exhaust and stiffer suspension, the Kona N should be capable of a 0-100km/h sprint time in the low-six second bracket.
The 2021 Hyundai Kona N will be unveiled in full in the coming weeks, ahead of an Australian launch in the third quarter of 2021 (July to September inclusive).
