2021 GMSV Chevrolet new cars
Holden might be gone but General Motors will live-on in the form of GMSV and Chevrolet.
General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) is a factory-backed operation with a direct line to Detroit, but the vehicles will be converted locally to right-hand-drive by the same outfit that transformed Holden Special Vehicles for more than three decades.
The GMSV line-up currently only has the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ powered by a 6.2-litre V8 petrol backed by a 10-speed auto.
This street-focussed model is due to be joined mid-year (or soon after) by the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Trail Boss off-road pack, which gains a two-inch suspension lift, off-road tyres, a rear differential lock and a blacked-out grille.
Price and final specs for the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Trail Boss are yet to be released.
It is also unclear whether the price of the local Chevrolet Silverado range will come down given that Detroit now directly controls the operation and there's no longer a third-party distributor clipping the ticket on the way through.
While demand for full-size pick-ups is booming in Australia (and the US), it's probably best not to hold your breath looking for a discount.
Later in the year the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 petrol V8 range is due to be joined by the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 diesel heavy duty range.
Once again, price and details are yet to be finalised. In the US this model is available with a basic 6.6-litre V8 petrol (299kW/630Nm) paired to a six-speed auto.
However, local fans are likely holding their breath for the 6.6-litre V8 turbo diesel with an output of 331kW and an epic 1233Nm paired to a 10-speed auto.
Then, finally, around November-December the Chevrolet Corvette is due to turn up. Prices and model mix are yet to be confirmed, but the Corvette will be a factory-built right-hand-drive.
