2018 Volvo XC60 Scores 5-Star ANCAP Rating

The all-new Volvo XC60 SUV has received the maximum 5-star safety rating from crash-test authority, the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

ANCAP CEO James Goodwin praised the XC60’s performance in the areas of adult occupant protection and safety assist systems which returned the highest results to date with ratings of 98 percent (37.25 points out of 38) and 95 percent (11.4 points out of 12) respectively.

The highest ‘good’ rating was given in the full-width frontal crash test, dropping to ‘marginal’ for the chest of of rear seat passengers. Similarly all areas except for the driver’s lower legs get a ‘good’ rating, with leg protection one step lower, considered ‘acceptable’.

“High levels of protection were recorded for occupants in all four crash tests, with only the chest of the rear passenger in the full width test and the lower legs of the driver in the frontal offset test seeing points deducted.“ Mr Goodwin said.

“All body regions received full scores in the side impact and pole tests.”

Standard safety systems in the XC60 include nine airbags including a driver’s knee airbags and front and rear side airbags, autonomous emergency braking with forward collision warning and pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist and lane departure warning, and speed sign recognition with speed limiting,

The XC60 also received an 87 percent rating for child occupant protection with 42.86 points out of a possible 49 and 76 percent for pedestrian protection, or 31.93 out of 42 points.

ANCAP’s result comes from data collected by Euro NCAP and applies to D4, D5, T5, and T6 four cylinder variants with the plug-in hybrid T8 unrated.
