2018 Toyota Yaris sedan unveiled in New Delhi
More small sedans from India
The new-generation Toyota Yaris sedan has made its global debut at the 2018 New Delhi motor show.
According to NDTV, the new Yaris sedan will be available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to either a six-speed manual or a continuously-variable transmission.
The car's list of features includes seven airbags, disc brakes for all four wheels, front and rear parking sensors, a touchscreen infotainment system with gesture control, reversing camera, push-button start, faux-leather seats, charging ports for rear-seat passengers, a two-tone interior, and 15-inch alloy wheels.
For the Indian market, the new Yaris will be produced in Bangalore. It's almost certain this new sedan will be sold as either Yaris or Vios throughout much of the developing world.
Like the current Vios/Yaris sedan, the new model seems to be, at best, a distant relation to the Yaris hatch sold in Australia, Europe, Japan and North America.
Our Europe-developed Yaris hatch made its global debut in 2010, and was given a large facelift last year. Toyota Australia sold the previous generation Yaris sedan alongside the newer hatch until 2016.
Australia
We're waiting to hear back from Toyota Australia about local availability, but it does seem unlikely given the current Vios/Yaris sedan was sold only in developing markets.
Tellingly, perhaps, Toyota USA has restyled and rebadged the Mazda 2 sedan as the Yaris iA for the American market.
