Ahead of arriving in Australian showrooms the 2017 Ford Escape has been awarded a five star safety rating by ANCAP.
The rating comes as no surprise with the 2017 Escape scoring 36.33 out of 37 - the same score as the its predecessor, the Kuga, received in 2013 - with the Escape being little more than a change of name accompanying a facelift for the outgoing Kuga.
As a result, the test score is actually carried over from the 2013 crashes, with the Escape receiving the maximum 16 out of 16 points in the side impact test, 15.33 out of 16 in the frontal offset test, with a ‘Good’ whiplash protection rating and ‘Acceptable’ pedestrian protection.
Standard safety features include dual front airbags, front seat side airbags, full-length curtain airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, front seatbelt pretensioners, ABS brakes, stability control, and a reversing camera with autonomous emergency braking available as an option on all but the base model.
Ford also includes MyKey on the Escape, allowing parents to set speed restrictions and audio volume limits for younger drivers as well as Emergency Assistance which can contact emergency services via a pair mobile phone when the vehicle detects an emergency.
