Ford Mustang recalled in Australia due to rear-view camera fault

Ford has recalled almost 19,000 Mustangs in Australia due to a wiring defect which could cause the sports car's rear-view camera – and other functions – to stop working.

Ford Australia has recalled 18,840 examples of its 2014-2017 Mustang coupes and convertibles, following the discovery of a wiring defect which could cause its rear-view camera to malfunction – putting bystanders behind the sports car at risk of being run over.

The recall affects FM-generation Mustangs sold by Ford in Australia between late-2015 and mid-2018, though it does not impact the current FN-generation sports car.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "A manufacturing defect in the wiring harness of the rear boot lid may cause intermittent operation of the rear-view camera, loss of satellite radio reception, inoperative luggage compartment lamp and/or inoperable luggage compartment release.

"If the rear-view camera display does not continually display the rear-view image whilst reversing the vehicle, it could increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to any persons located behind the vehicle.
