Mercedes-Benz has announced today that its new R 350 CDI Long Wheelbase SUV, updated for the 2011 model year, will go on sale in Australia from March.
Measuring 23.5cm longer, the more powerful long-wheelbase (LWB) R-Class SUV follows the launch last November of the short-wheelbase R 300 CDI.
With the extra length, Mercedes-Benz says the R 350 CDI LWB offers more space for second and third row passengers, while total luggage capacity is increased to 633 litres.
Powered by a more powerful version of the 3.0 litre V6 turbodiesel engine driving the 140kW/440Nm R 300 CDI, the R 350 CDI offers 195kW and 620Nm of torque.
Fuel consumption is listed at 8.5 l/100km, with power sent to the rear wheels through Mercedes' 7G-Tronic automatic transmission, updated with new bearings and couplings for 2011.
Mercedes says the big R 350 CDI people mover will make its way to 100km/h in 7.7 seconds, bettering its short-wheelbase sibling by a full two seconds.

Pricing
The 2011 R 350 CDI LWB is priced at $108,900 (Manufacturer's List Price), which Mercedes says is $11,977 less than the cost of a similarly-equipped 2010 model-year R 350 CDI.
