A year on from the launch of its mid-life facelift, the revised-for-2011 Mazda CX-9 has been announced for Australia today, bringing a smaller but significant update.
Powered by a refined version of the same 3.7 litre V6 DOHC petrol engine found in the 2009 model, the updated CX-9 offers the same 204kW and 367Nm of torque but now offers fuel consumption figures of just 11.3 l/100km - an improvement of 0.9 l/100km.
The new numbers are thanks to tweaked engine-combustion control, bringing optimised efficiency during deceleration and at idle.
A number of other minor refinements contribute to the new numbers, including improvements to the CX-9's differential gear and a reduction in transmission friction.
New and lighter 18 and 20-inch alloy wheels have been added to the CX-9 range, reducing unsprung weight and bringing improved ride quality. The factory-fitted tyres also have a lower rolling resistance, contributing further to the crossover's reduced fuel consumption.
Mazda's Active Torque Split all-wheel-drive system is paired with a six-speed Activematic automatic transmission.
