1999-2001 Audi A4, A6, A8, TT and Cabriolet recalled with Takata airbag fault

The fault could cause airbags to inflate with reduced impact, according to the recall notice.

Audi has recalled 1624 examples of its A4, A6, A8, TT, and Cabriolet vehicles, citing a potential fault with the Takata airbags.

The affected vehicles are stamped Model Years 1999-2001.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "The propellant in the gas generator of the Takata NADI 5-AT airbag fitted to certain vehicles with 3-spoke steering wheels may degrade over time. As a result the driver airbag may deploy with reduced force.

"In the event of an accident a reduced force airbag deployment could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users."
