This is why Ford need to base the Falcon on a world platform. If the Falcon and the Mustang were both built off the same platform, it would be relatively cheap to bolt this baby into the falcon and call it a GTHO. Low volume engine transplants are just way too expensive when you have an orphan architecture

Ford build the falcon for fleets as they buy most of them. If you need a vehicle for towing, the new ranger does a far better job. Otherwise they have the Territory (which will be replaced by explorer). As fleets dont generally tow, I doubt ford would choose whether to go FWD or RWD on whether a small percentage like to tow with a RWD sedan.

However, fully agree with your comments on the mustang being an image booster. Especially when they are finally looking at bringing the car into the 21st century to compete with European muscle cars.
