You could be mistaken for believing that the ultimate test of a performance car was a lap of the Nurburgring, and we can understand you making that mistake, truly we can. But deep down, we all know that the only true test of a cars ability, the only test that insists on using the same driver and requires a standing start from all of the cars - is a hot lap of the Top Gear test track.
The Stig has flogged the R35 GT-R and recorded a staggering 1:19.7 lap time. We now feel it is possible to believe the rumours and heresay - the R35 GT-R is officially bloody quick!
As promised, the General has provided video footage of the ZR1 Corvette and its now legendary 7:26 lap of the ‘Green Hell’. Jim Mero, a GM development engineer is behind the wheel. Jim obviously isn’t your average garen variety cardigan and corduroy wearing engineer.
I never expected to see a Corvette corner and accelerate like the ZR1 does. I never expected the ZR1 to lap the Nurburgring faster than the R35 GT-R. I never expected to see an engineer drive this quickly. This is one video that you don’t want to miss!

Spending hundreds of thousands on a CGI TV commercial? Bah! With its new telly ad, Lexus has tried something a little simpler, a bit more grassroots, significantly more enjoyable, and a heck of a lot more poignant.
The video above shows NASCAR driver Scott Pruett chucking a Lexus IS-F around a race track, while James Sloyan—actor and longtime voice of Lexus USA’s usually more tame commercials—attempts to read some marketing mumbo from a sheet of paper. It really is 30 seconds of genius and a bloody good indication of how much fun the IS-F can obviously be.
Come on Lexus Australia, sort it out!
Jezza hits the road in the wee small hours of the morning to sample the 378kW/507hp Mercedes-Benz CLK Black Series and returns home smitten, announcing that the hi-po Merc is now his new favourite—and The Stig agrees.
A distinct lack of oversteer slides and smoking rear tyres suggest that JC took Mercedes and its written warning very seriously. Check it out, and you’ll see what I mean.
The Tonight Show’s host, Jay Leno has just taken delivery of one of the first Dodge Challenger SRT-8’s, well actually number four to be precise. I’m not sure what the other guys on TMR think but for me, the new Challenger is the sexiest U.S. muscle car ever - what a damn shame they won’t be coming to Australia.
Anyway, watch Jay as he takes delivery of his personal Challenger SRT-8 from the local Dodge dealer and takes it out on the highway for a shakedown run. The fact that his Challenger only has a few miles on the clock doesn’t stop Jay from smoking the back wheels either - something that I always thought was an essential part of any comprehensive ‘running in’ program.

It has a face only a mother could love but there is no disputing the uber sedan credentials of Cadillac’s new CTS-V. Its supercharged 6.2-litre LSA V8 packs a solid 415kW/747Nm and you will see it put to good use around the Milford circuit in this video.
Keeping the beefy sedan on the blacktop is GM’s Magnetic Ride Control adjustable damping system as seen in our own HSV GTS sedan.
Who would have thought a Caddy could cut a lap with this much dash!

Earlier this year BMW revealed their Hommage concept, an M1 influenced supercar concept, a supposed one-off that was built to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the M1 - BMW’s ‘nearly but not quite’ attempt at building a supercar.
Well buckle up because it looks like we could be in for another blue roundel roller coaster ride, with BMW releasing some very mysterious video footage of a car they will be unveiling at their very own Munich based museum on June 10. The GINA Light Visionary and no, we don’t understand the name either.

Alright folks, one more Top Gear Australia bit before I run out the door and down to the pub before the brilliantly conceived 2am lockout can stop me.
SBS have posted a video showing some tidbits from the application videos entered by the three eventual winners. If that weren’t enough, there’s also a couple of snippets at the start mentioning how many applications they had, how many went through to the interview stage, how many were shortlisted, and so forth. All round, an interesting video and personally my first look at the lads in action.
I’m not sure how impressed I am, but with a bit of professionally scripted writing and some proper filming, it may well turn out to be a good show after all.
