While AMG prepare Mercedes’ next generation of supercar, the SLC, McLaren have been busying themselves with one last version of the SLR before they quietly part company with Mercedes-Benz. The topless SLR Speedster is to be the SLR’s swansong, for once all 75 cars are built the baton will be passed onto the AMG-developed SLC and its immensely powerful supercharged engine.

Jay is back. A few weeks ago we saw Jay’s review of the R35 GT-R, this time around it’s the Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR that’s in the spotlight; and Jay likes it.

Oft maligned the super expensive SLR has proven to be less than a hit with the punters and has been the catalyst for Mercedes-Benz and McLaren to sever ties and pursue future ultra-high performance models of their own.

More news regarding McLaren’s P11 supercar is coming to light. With production of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren winding up in 2009, McLaren are gearing up for a suitable supercar replacement.

According to Autocar, early prototypes of the P11 began shakedown testing in mid-April in preparation for a 2009 unveiling before hitting showrooms in March 2010. The standard P11 will lead the charge with roadster and hi-po versions expected to follow.

Not to be outdone by Ferrari who have just unveiled their new F2008 car, McLaren have taken the wraps of their new for 2008 MP4-23. According to the press release the new McLaren F1 racer was only just finished on the 6th of Jan, in time for its 7th of Jan unveiling alongside Lewis Hamilton who was also celebrating his 23rd birthday.

The unveiling took place at the 53,000 sqm Mercedes-Benz Museum, one of the world’s largest and most renowned car museums and MB invited around 700 employees from the nearby manufacturing plant Stuttgart-Untertürkheim, to share in the revelry.
