The battle lines are drawn as GM and Toyota square off for yet another year of who is the biggest and best. The first quarter results are in and a repeat of 2007’s performance is on the board, with Toyota outselling the General 2.41 million units to 2.25 million units.
At this early stage a winner can’t be picked as last year the General turned their first quarter result around and pipped Toyota at the final post – albeit under dubious circumstances.

Late last week, we brought you the first details of Opel’s new Insignia mid size sedan. With its styling winning friends across the web it now seems appropriate to bring you the official video.
Potentially the next Holden Vectra, the Insignia is set to go on sale in the UK in November this year, following a public appearance at the London Motor Show in July. Stunning on the outside, will the Insignia have what it takes to win over the likes of Jeremy Clarkson and his distaste for the mid-size Vauxhall front-wheel-driver?

Opel have released details concerning their new Insignia range today. Destined for Europe, the Insignia will replace the now dated Vectra and take the fight to the Ford Mondeo, Honda Accord, Mazda6 and Citroen C5.
You can check out the picture gallery below to see just how far Opel’s mid-sizer has come. Gone are the hard edges and flat surfaces of the Vectra, replaced by a combination of taut lines and smooth curves along with an aggressive new stance. Best viewed from the front three quarter angle, the new Insignia looks the goods.

Earlier this year, GM revealed three concept mini cars, the Beat, the Groove and the Trax. The wacky styling of the Beat in particular certainly had tongues wagging at the time. That was back in April and GM set-up an online poll at the time that asked the public to choose which of the three should go into production.

Saab don’t have a whole lot going on at the moment and their little corner of the world at the Sydney Motor Show was a bit of a reflection on their state of affairs. A rehashed design, Saab have bunged a new front on their 9-3 and called it a new car - but we all know otherwise. Still, the Turbo-X AWD V6 Turbo wagon looked the goods and their is no question that this and the other 9-3’s will be the best Saab’s yet. Lets hope they re-find their identity and some of their past quirkiness in the coming years.

This time its Saab’s turn to feel the pain, as three new images of Saab’s Turbo X hit the net just shy of its official Frankfurt Motor Show unveiling.
The Saab Turbo X is the tasty little limited edition Swedish hot-rod that Saab will be using to introduce their new XWD Haldex AWD system. The trick XWD system is capable of splitting the Turbo X’s drive front to rear and side to side care of a new electronic limited slip differential.
According to the folks over at Trollhattan Saab the new XWD system is so effective the Turbo X has outrun Porsche’s 911 Turbo on a slalom course during testing – a feat not to be sneezed at.
Although official details of the Turbo X have not yet been released by Saab, we do know that it will feature a 2.8-litre V6 developing 209kW/280hp and 400Nm endowing the Turbo X with enough mumbo to rocket it from 0-100 km/h (62mph) in 5.7 seconds. Trollhatten Saab believe that the Turbo X will be a manual transmission only affair.
Saab will be limiting production to 2000 units.
