The Tonight Show’s host, Jay Leno has just taken delivery of one of the first Dodge Challenger SRT-8’s, well actually number four to be precise. I’m not sure what the other guys on TMR think but for me, the new Challenger is the sexiest U.S. muscle car ever - what a damn shame they won’t be coming to Australia.

Anyway, watch Jay as he takes delivery of his personal Challenger SRT-8 from the local Dodge dealer and takes it out on the highway for a shakedown run. The fact that his Challenger only has a few miles on the clock doesn’t stop Jay from smoking the back wheels either - something that I always thought was an essential part of any comprehensive ‘running in’ program.

If you are interested in car photography then the following video is for you. Aside from featuring the super sexy 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, Andrew Yeadon from Carpix.net gets together with the guys at Streetfire.net and gives us the low-down on how the professionals go about photographing a car.

The black Challenger was snapped for Top Gear magazine by Andrew and the process was caught on film by Streetfire.net. The location is a suitably desolate looking abandoned airstrip in California. Put your feet up and click through to watch this very informative vid.

Someone needs to tell the folks over at Dodge that their yet to be built 2008 Challenger SRT-8 is a roaring sales success. With more than 6,000 deposits in hand and an expected first year production run of only 4,000 units, there is little left for Dodge to sell. They’ve sold the sausage and the sizzle, yet have still chosen to release some teaser pics, bless their hearts.

It may be tough being part of the Chrysler family right at the moment, but the Challenger, particularly in SRT-8 guise is the cream rising to the top. Dodge could easily leave the whole teaser pic routine to the likes of Subaru who seriously need to ease the outside world into their styling disasters - but we are glad they didn’t.

When it comes to modern American muscle there is absolutely no doubt that the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 is the one that “fries my burger” best. Forget the Viper and Corvette, Mustang or even the yet to be released Camaro, they just don’t “do cool” as well as the Challenger – and I’m not alone with these thoughts.

With pricing only released on the 29th of November, there has been unprecedented demand for the new hottie on the block. In just the first day, 4,300 lucky Americans stumped up a deposit to get their name in the order book. If that wasn’t enough as of yesterday some 6,000 individuals had found their local dodge dealer and handed over the cash. Chrysler have at this stage only committed to producing 4,000 Challenger SRT-8’s each year which will leave a couple of thousand wannabe owners waiting…and waiting…and waiting.

The new and absolutely stunning 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 has had its pricing announced – twice. First time around the price was listed as $US37,995 and most recently the price has been re-announced as starting at $US40,995.

According to the guys at Autoblog, who contacted Chrysler, the reason for the increase is a $US2,100 “gas-guzzler” penalty that has been incurred by the new Challenger SRT-8. It’s all a part of the price you pay in the US for buying a car equipped with a 6.1-litre V8 that is averaging somewhere between 18.5 and 19.5 mpg or 12.1 to 12.7 L/100km.

Hennessey is not a company well known in Australia but their reputation in the States is well known by car enthusiasts. Hennessey specialise in taking factory performance cars from mild to wild with the development and fitting of purpose built tuning parts. They have waved their tuning wand over a number of America’s best known performance cars, including the recently released Dodge Viper SRT10 and Ford GT. They are not shy about dabbling with Euro exotica either with the Audi R8 being the latest Euro supercar to receive the Hennessey once over.
