For those of you who were, like me, disappointed with the lack of attention the Aston Martin DBS received in Casino Royale, you’ll be pleased to see in the trailer for the Quantum of Solace that it looks like we’re up for a much stronger dose this time around.
The 22nd Bond instalment, titled James Bond: Obscure Unit of Measurement (waaait a minute…) comes to cinemas on the 27th of November 2008, and I suspect we’ll probably get another 3 trailers and about a dozen “featurettes” online between now and then. Stay tuned!
Being both a car and movie fanatic, this sort of news is always on the top of my list. What other car movies are you hanging out for?
Incidentally, you should absolutely jump below the line to see an interesting bit of trivia about the DBS crash scene in Casino Royale, which I’ve conveniently lifted from Wikipedia. » Read Article
Aston Martin only released the news of their upgraded for 2009 V8 Vantage last week, and already the first video review has hit the internet. In this video, Autocar test the new 4.7-litre V8 Vantage in manual gearbox form. A little more power along with the other tweaks and refinements see the V8 Vantage’s game lifted to a new level.
Having just announced a power upgrade for their V8 Vantage, Aston Martin has also fessed up to tinkering a little with their DB9 and as with the V8 Vantage the result is more power and improved efficiency.
The mighty 6.0-litre V12 heart of the DB9 now beats a little faster with peak power pumped up to 470bhp (350kW) and 600Nm an increase of 20bhp and 30Nm. As a result performance has improved marginally with the dash from 0 - 60mph (96km/h) taking 4.6 seconds in both manual and Touchtronic transmission versions – an improvement of 0.3 seconds for the Touchtronic and 0.1 seconds for the manual.

As we’ve covered in the past, news of the mythical RX-9 has always been thin on the ground. Enthusiast renderings on the other hand have always flown thick and fast. And why not? With the GT-R now gracing roads around the world and both the STI and Evolution X long gone from the rumour mill, the next rotary-propelled sports car from Mazda remains one of the few mysteries left in the next-gen Japanese sports car circus.
Based on the logical assumption that the RX-8 represents a design language that Mazda are moving away from—although the flared guard of the new Mazda 6 might wish to disagree—FoMoCoNews forum member rhoadwh (gesundheit) has dug deep and pulled out this stunning home-brewed 3D render of what he thinks the RX-9 might—or at least should—look like. » Read Article
The set of ‘Quantum of Solace’ the latest Bond flick is proving to be a little unlucky for the films stunt drivers. Last weekend, one of the stunt drivers dropped an Aston Martin DBS into a lake in Italy and escaped with minor injuries – unfortunately the same cannot be said for the DBS. The video below shows that the DBS definitely came out the worst for wear in this little incident.
Following the ‘Aston incident’ comes news that there has been a second crash on set. This time though, the driver is in a serious condition and filming by the second unit has been suspended while the accident is investigated.

Recent murmurs concerning a strategic alliance between Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz are now escalating into suggestions that there will be a full financial partnership between the two manufacturers.

It has been rumoured for a while now that Aston Martin would move some of their manufacturing away from their Gaydon manufacturing plant and we can now confirm that this is the case. Aston is suffering from the same issue as a number of high-end car manufacturers – big demand for their product and not enough manufacturing capacity to deal with it.
With their current product proving immensely popular, Aston’s Gaydon plant is running at capacity which means alternative arrangements have needed to be made for the production of their upcoming Rapide four-door.

After spending the day sitting in front of a computer, I can’t help but envy guys like the ones in the picture above. The sort who spend the day hanging out with an Aston Martin LM P1 prototype race car. The shriek of the engine, the smell of oil, rubber and unburnt fuel at a track, hmmm….
