Taylor Swift’s unlikely choice for a first car

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour is sweeping across Australia and leaving sparkles, friendship bracelets and hysteria in its wake.

During her second concert at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on February 17, Swift delighted audiences by singing an acoustic version of her popular song Getaway Car.

So, what is the singer's real getaway car of choice?

After her private jet landed in Melbourne on Thursday, February 15, the 34-year-old and her team were transported to the MCG on Friday in a cavalcade of blacked-out Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz SUVs worthy of a world leader.

But while the singer now prefers tinted windows and personal drivers, a teenage Swift was less concerned with flying under the radar, preferring to drive herself around in a huge white Hummer H2.

Resurfaced footage shows a 16-year-old Swift hitting the road in Tennessee while behind the wheel of her parents' Hummer H2.

"I'm driving, you can't stop me," the young country star is heard saying to her mother, Andrea Swift.

The video was captured during a 2006 television interview with Swift, in which she also shared some insights into her driving style.

"I got my permit last year after I went three times and failed the test each time," Swift then tells the camera.

"I'm really skilled at all the rules of driving, I can drive in a straight line but I don't like stop signs at all. But I'm getting better!"

The 2006 Hummer H2 is a bold choice for a first car, with six seats, a wheelbase that measures more than three metres long and a 6.0-litre, V8 engine outputting roughly 242kW of power and almost 500Nm of torque.

Flash forward 18 years and Swift's NFL player boyfriend, Travis Kelce, is also the proud owner of the new all-electric GMC Hummer Pickup.

The 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup is priced from $US98,845 before on-road costs ($AU151,208) and has a maximum claimed driving range of roughly 613km.

Kelce is an avid car collector, with a mix of new EVs and old-school American muscle cars.

When Swift and Kelce first started dating, they were famously photographed leaving an NFL game in Kelce's burgundy 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible.
