While supercharged V8s have been a fixture of the Australian new car land for several years, not everyone enjoys the sound and fury of pumped-up engines such as the 430kW monster in the HSV GTS.

Fans of naturally aspirated engines have a new option in the Walkinshaw Performance W407 package, which builds on the 304kW 6.2-litre V8 fitted to Holden's VFII series of V8 Commodores.

The $9990 package brings a tuned exhaust, camshaft, intake and more that brings additional performance to Holden's V8 hero.

Customers can expect 407kW of power at 6250rpm and 695Nm at 4950rpm, increases of 103kW and 225Nm respectively.

The kit can be fitted to new or used models, though owners of cars with more than 20,000 kilometres on the clock will need to pay an extra $1000 for a new head gasket and other engine internals in order to benefit from Walkinshaw's driveline warranty.

It also works on non-supercharged HSV models such as the 340kW HSV Clubsport R8 Track Edition, which receives the same 407kW and 695Nm maximums as a standard V8 Commodore.

The treatment should also work on Holden's upcoming MY17 Commodore range, the final run of homegrown V8 performance cars.
