Volvo Australia has today announced sweeping changes and updates for its 2011 range, including the C30, C70, S40, V50, V70, S80, XC70 and XC90 lines.

Among the updates are improvements in engine performance and efficiency, along with safety, performance, equipment and passenger comfort.

Headlining the engine changes is the new 3.0-litre turbocharged six cylinder T6 petrol engine offered in the S60, S80, V70 and XC60.

Safety

Safety features have also been upgraded for 2011, including the addition of an Emergency Brake Light as stand equipment across the range. This system works by flashing the brake lights five times per second during heavy braking, alerting following drivers.

All C30, C70 S40 and V50 models are now fitted with dedicated daytime running lights mounted in the front spoiler that automatically come on when the car is started.

Volvo's Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), optionally available on V70, S80, XC70 and XC90 models, also gains new functions for 2011.

ACC allows drivers to automatically maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front using a radar sensor and digital camera integrated with the cruise control.

For 2011, ACC now offers a three-stage system which first warns the driver, then pre-charges the brakes and finally applies full braking force.

If the vehicle in front suddenly brakes and a collision is likely, the system alerts the driver with a flashing red light on the windscreen and an audible signal. If the driver fails to react and a collision is imminent, the system immediately applies full braking force.

Features

Volvo has added Bluetooth connectivity as a standard feature across the range, allowing for hands-free phone calls and audio streaming.

All Volvo models now also feature high quality speakers from Harman Kardon.

2011 Volvo V70 And S80

Volvo's large all-wheel-drive V70 and the flagship S80 sedan are now available in two variants, the T6 and T6 R-Design.

Volvo's T6 petrol engine produces 224kW and 440Nm of torque - the latter being on par with the outgoing V8 S80.

The 2011 V70 features 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear park assist, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror, a premium sound system with six-stack CD player, heated front seats, wood trim and a power-operated tailgate.

The top-shelf T6 R-Design gains a lowered Sports chassis and self-levelling rear suspension.

The Family Pack features Volvo’s Rear Entertainment System (RES), satellite navigation system (VNS) and a reversing camera with in-dash monitor.

The S80 carries the same features offered with last year's updated model, but is also available with the Teknick Pack.

The 2011 S40 and V50 models are available in T5 S and T5 R-Design variants, featuring the larger ironmark grille that was introduced with the updated C30 and C70 models last year.

A new Lifestyle Pack option is available for the T5 S variant that adds heated front seats, with power adjustment on the driver’s side, leather trim and the High Performance Sound audio system.

These are all standard features on the top of the range T5 R-Design models, while all S40 and V50 variants can be had with the upgraded Teknik Pack option that includes satellite navigation (VNS), Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Dual Xenon Active Bending Lights (ABL), retractable door mirrors, rear park assist and rain sensor windscreen wipers.

2011 Volvo C30

The C30 range is also joined by an automatic T5 S variant for 2011, with standard features including Electronic Climate Control, cruise control, power operated windows and exterior mirrors, 17-inch alloy wheels, remote central locking and a Performance Sound system with AM/FM radio, single slot CD player and audio controls on the steering wheel.

Options for the 1.6 litre 80kW/240Nm C30 DRIVe and T5 S include a new Lifestyle Pack that brings a leather trim, rear park assist, heated front seats, power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory and a High Performance Sound audio system.

The C30 DRIVe is also now equipped with a six-speed manual transmission as standard.
