Volkswagen is preparing a pair of special edition models to take advantage of Australia’s insatiable appetite for SUVs with specially prepared versions of the Tiguan and Touareg lines.
In the case of the Tiguan, Volkswagen’s medium SUV will introduce a new Sportline variant, designed to slot into the range between the existing Comfortline and Highline models, powered by the same 162TSI engine as the Highline.
In Sportline trim, the Tiguan will sit on a set of 20-inch alloy wheels, but won't be offered with the R-Line styling package that can be added to the Highline. Adaptive Chassis Control will also be included as standard as will cloth sports seats, and the same styling package as the Highline, including dual trapezoidal exhaust outlets.
The Sportline will also introduce the first instance of Volkswagen’s level 2 autonomous safety systems including side assist, traffic jam assist, and pedestrian detection for the front assist emergency brake system. Later, other 2018 model year Tiguans will also adopt the upgraded safety tech.
