Volkswagen will reveal an all-new electric vehicle concept in Detroit next month, alongside the long-coming Jetta Hybrid, according to The Detroit Free Press.
As the German giant draws nearer to the 2013 launch of its Blue-e-motion range, the number of electric concepts out of Wolfsburg rolls on. Recent shows have seen the unveiling of the all-electric eT! van, Nils commuter and e-Up! concepts.
The Detroit show car is described as a "pure concept," unrelated to any of the brand's existing models and reportedly off the table as far as a production future is concerned.
It is likely however that its electric powertrain technology will make its way into a future Blue-e-motion model.
As for the Jetta Hybrid, that's one that Volkswagen will put into production late next year, with a view to a 2013 model-year launch.
"Volkswagen will be taking E-mobility to mass production. In 2011, we are expanding our test fleet by adding 500 Golfs with electric drive. A hybrid version of the Jetta for the US market follows in 2012," VW CEO Martin Winterkorn confirmed earlier this year.
Details for the ultra-green Jetta haven't been revealed yet, although reports point to a 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol engine - unrelated to the current turbo- and supercharged 1.4 - mated to an electric motor.
Watch for more details in the coming weeks.
