Volkswagen Australia has begun the voluntary recall program aimed at correcting the mess visited upon it by the now-infamous emissions scandal.

The Amarok pickup is the first model to be recalled by the carmaker’s local arm under the program, with a total of 8694 vehicles on the list.

Volkswagen says the recall is voluntary, but stresses that “vehicle performance, torque, fuel consumption [and] engine acoustics” will be unaffected by the adjustment.

The recall will see the Amarok’s software updated, with the process taking less than 30 minutes. There is no charge to the customer to have the recall carried-out.
