Vic: RACV Launches Specialised Driving Program For Migrants

Victoria's RACV has teamed with the state's Traffic Accident Commission (TAC) to launch a new program to help migrants gain greater experience before testing for their probationary and full licences.

Focusing on adult migrants and refugees that have grown up without any perspective for Western traffic and road laws, the program will include extensive driving lessons and road safety information sessions. 

The program will also include training for previously licensed volunteer drivers who will supervise new arrivals through their learner-driver period.

"Driving lessons are seen as an important element in helping new arrivals become mobile and participate in activities within the community however the cost of lessons is often a barrier for many of them," RCV's Melinda Congiu said.

The announcement comes on the heels of a study that found that mobility and transport are key issues for migrants and migrant communities.
