VFACTS August: Market Continues Slide, But Corolla Still Going Strong

Australia’s new car market continued its downward trend in August, with 1710 fewer cars sold than in July.

The market was down 5.5 percent on August last year and 2.5 percent year-to-date on 2013 sales, currently sitting on a grand total of 737,975 for 2014; with four months remaining.

While sales figures are down, some small comfort for carmakers can be had when considering August 2014 had one less selling day than August 2013.

Whether the market will continue its downward slide as the year plays out is unclear, but Australia is still on track to pass the one million-sales mark in the calendar year.
