Opel's hard and fast Corsa OPC Nurburgring Edition (NE) has debuted in the UK with a Vauxhall badge this week, boosting the regular Corsa VXR's output from 143kW to 156kW.

Don't expect this one to join the regular Opel line-up when it hits Australia next year, however: Opel Australia CEO William Mott has already confirmed that we won't see any Opel Performance Centre models on our shores. Not initially, at least.

Giving the Corsa VXR NE its Golf GTI-rivalling power is a new ECU and turbocharger, an upgraded exhaust system and optimisation for 100-octane fuel.

Thanks also to an overboost function; torque in the 1.6 litre turbo engine is up from 250Nm to 280Nm. Despite being smaller and just as powerful, the Corsa VXR NE is only a hair quicker to 100km/h - at 6.8 seconds - than the Golf GTI.

Along with a tougher engine, AU$36,100 gets you a mechanical multi-plate LSD, Bilstein springs and dampers, Brembo lightweight front brakes, 18-inch forged aluminium wheels, a front lip spoiler, stainless-steel dual exhaust tips and Recaro seats.

For European buyers, both the Opel and Vauxhall editions of this quick Corsa should be a compelling buy.
