V8 Supercar driver Jason Richards has lost his battle with cancer, passing away peacefully at his home last night. He was 35 years old and is survived by his wife Charlotte and their children Sienna and Olivia.

Richards was diagnosed with Adrenocortical Carcinoma late last year. The disease is a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

The racing community and fans joined forces earlier this year in launching Bid4Jase.com, a campaign driven by Greg Murphy, Garth Tander and Paul Dumbrell to help raise costs for the V8 Supercar veteran's treatment.

"We might be fierce competitors out on the track but off the track we are a bunch of like-minded, community driven people who really care for our own," Greg Murphy said at the launch of the website.

"Jason Richards is a mate to each and every one of us here in pit lane."

Richards was a popular face on the racing circuit, kicking off his career with Team Kiwi Racing in 2000, along with stints at Team Dynamik, Tasman and Brad Jones Racing. He had three Bathurst 1000 podiums to his name.

Rest in peace, Jason.
