Luxury SUV maker Land Rover is preparing to update its upscale Range Rover Sport range for the 2017 model year, adding new safety technology as well as a new entry-level engine.

The engine is from the Jaguar Land Rover ‘Ingenium’ family, a 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbo diesel producing 177kW and 500Nm, with an official fuel consumption figure of 6.2 l/100km.

Land Rover claims that the new engine matches the performance of the outgoing 3.0 litre TDV6.

Also new to the 2017 Range Rover Sport is a segment-first Advanced Tow Assist - a technology capable of automatically guiding a trailored vehicle into a predetermined position when reversing, via Land Rover’s Terrain Response controller.

Blind Spot Assist is also included in the upgrades, able to detect traffic in the vehicle’s blind spot, and if necessary, counter-steer to avoid a collision.

In low grip conditions, Low Traction Launch can be manually selected to limit torque and help maintain traction on mud, snow and ice. These, and the other new technologies now available on the Range Rover Sport, match those added to the 2017 Range Rover.

Similarly, the larger touchscreen InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, measuring 10.0-inches, replaces the previous 8.0-inch touchscreen system, adding features like pinch-to-zoom maps, and optional Pro Services connectivity allowing live data updates without a smartphone connection.

On the outside, new optional design packs allow owners to tailer the look of their Range Rover Sport, with the Dynamic Pack adding a gloss black finish to the grille, bonnet vents, side vents, mirror caps, and Range Rover badging front and rear, while the Bright Pack adds Atlas Silver mesh to the grille and bonnet.
