Toyota has added a new mid-range variant to its fleet of floating models, called the Ponam-31.
Under the Toyota Marine banner, the Ponam-31 launched in Toyota’s Japanese homeland this week and will sit between the existing Poman-35 and Ponam-28III in the model line-up.
Toyota dubs the 31 a ‘sports utility cruiser’, showing that the carmaker hasn’t forgotten its roots when it comes to building boats.
The theme continues through Toyota’s other marine models, with the 35 dubbed ‘premium cruiser’ and the 28III called ‘almighty flybridge cruiser’.
More road-going heritage can be seen in the 31’s engine bay, with a pair of 3.0 litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engines lifted from the Toyota Prado and modified for marine use.
