Toyota has introduced another special-edition family car in Australia, following last week's Aurion Touring with the new Camry Atara 'R' model.
While it carries the Atara name, the Atara R is based on the one-step-down Altise, adding $3000 in styling and safety upgrades.
Priced at $31,820 (up from $30,490 for the Altise) the Atara R upgrades its wheels from 16- to 17-inch, and also gains front fog lights and the requisite Special Edition badging.
In the cabin, you'll find a 'premium' three-spoke steering wheel and steering-mounted audio controls, along with a 6.1 inch display in the dash and a reversing camera with on-screen parking guides.
As with the Altise, the Atara R's safety features include seven airbags, Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control. There is also a trip computer and eco indicator, and six-speaker audio with iPod/USB/aux connectivity.
Colour choices include Diamond White, Silver Pearl, Graphite, Eclipse Black, Wildfire, Magnetic Bronze, and Reflex Blue.
The Camry range is powered by a 2.5 litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 133kW and 231Nm of torque.
Mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, the engine lists fuel consumption figures of 7.8 l/100km.
Toyota says it will produce 2500 examples of the Atara R, ending in December.
