The iconic moment in Australia’s motorsport history will live on with the Mustang Bathurst 77 Special, which takes its styling cues - including its distinctive livery - from the race-winning XC Falcon driven by Moffat.
Along with the decal pack, Tickford will apply its supercharger kit to the Mustang GT’s 5.0-litre engine, add a set of 20-inch alloy wheels, and at buyers request can fit a replica rear wing and race numbers. A variety of other Tickford performance parts which are yet to be confirmed will also for part of the package.
Production of the limited edition model will be capped at no more than 77 units, and comes with the endorsement of Allan Moffat himself.
"It is hard to believe it has been 40 years since Colin and I finished 1-2 at Bathurst but while I recall the race as if it were yesterday, it is nice to know it holds such a special place with so many people all these years on," Moffat said.
"The team at Tickford have done a very thorough job coming up with a modern interpretation of my 1977 XC Hardtop. While the Falcon has sadly been consigned to the history books, the Mustang was always one of my favourite cars to race and I had considerable success in them. Ford have done a great job with the latest one.”
"The Tickford Bathurst '77 Special looks amazing, produces an unbelievable amount of power and the finish across all areas of the vehicle highlights why the return of Tickford is so important for the Australian automotive industry. These guys know what they are doing and it shows in this special edition."
Tickford will announce further details, including pricing, for the commemorative edition closer to its launch later this year with interested customers urged to contact the tuning specialist to reserve their car.
