Tesla's slow-burn launch into Australia continues with news that its first Supercharger station will appear in Sydney, while on the international front it has confirmed a Nevada location for the first 'Gigafactory'.

Leading the latest Australian news is confirmation of plans not only for a Sydney-based Supercharger, but also a "state-of-the-art" service centre.

Construction on the service centre has already commenced, and Tesla hopes it will be up and running by the end of this year. A similar centre is also planned for Melbourne.

The Supercharging station allows Tesla drivers to ‘refuel’ their EVs in around 20 minutes in a similar environment to a conventional service station, and is free to owners for the life of the car.

The American EV-maker told local customers it is currently seeking a suitable location in Sydney for its first Australian Supercharging station, and was even open to suggestions from the public. (Post your suggestions in the comments below - Ed.)

Tesla also confirmed a number of Model S’ have arrived in Australia in right-hand-drive to serve as test vehicles, and that deliveries to customers were scheduled to begin “in the months ahead”.
