The car that kicked it all off for Tesla is about to return in updated form, if CEO Elon Musk is to be believed.
In a reply to a tweet, Musk effectively ‘teased’ Tesla fans on Twitter by confirming an update of the Tesla Roadster is likely on the way.
The original message asked when details on the new model would be forthcoming, following the original model which sold from 2008 - 2011 (including in Australia).
“Roadster update details coming next week,” Musk replied. “Several crisis issues [with] higher priority pushed this out longer than expected.”
An updated Roadster isn’t entirely unexpected, although a report from last year might suggest that the born-again model is up to three years early.

Of course Tesla may still be looking to an ‘all-new’ Roadster to replace the refreshed model in 2018, but this revised model will almost certainly be based on the original Roadster.
The CEO told shareholders at the annual meeting that Tesla would do “something cool” with the Roadster by year’s end, but kept the finer details to himself.
Rumoured changes include a new battery pack with a much improved range - so good, in fact, that the Roadster will surpass the range-topping Model S variant as the new EV distance king with a maximum range of 640km.
Whether the updated Tesla Roadster will make a return to Australian roads in the future or not is unclear at this stage.
