Suzuki's compact Regina concept has dropped its royal name in favour of 'G70', ahead of its return to the spotlight at next month's Geneva Motor Show.

The retro-tastic electric hatch first appeared at December's Tokyo Motor Show, previewing a possible new design direction for the Japanese carmaker.

While Suzuki has yet to confirm production plans for the G70 (nee Regina), its new name and a second scheduled appearance - possibly with a few styling tweaks - suggests the brand could have plans for the little green machine.

The full technical details for the concept were never revealed, although Suzuki promises its ultra-green drivetrain and 730kg kerb weight result in fuel consumption figures as low as 3.0 l/100km, depending on the car's configuration.

As for the new name, it's likely to be inspired by the concept's carbon-emissions rating, listed at a very low 70g/km.

Suzuki says it will also display a new version of the Swift Range Extender, first revealed at Geneva in 2010, with its all-electric driving range now extended to 30 kilometres.
