Suzuki has revealed its Tokyo Motor Show stars early, with a special surprise in store for fans of the Japanese automaker’s 4x4 range with the electric e-Survivor concept pointing to an ongoing presence in the sector.

Suzuki’s theme for this year’s show is “Excitement for everyone, in everywhere” (yes really, in everywhere) and the e-Survivor certainly appears to be chock full of excitement thanks to a high-riding buggy stance and open-topped two seater cabin.

Beneath the lightweight open-fendered bodywork the e-Survivor retains a rugged ladder frame chassis, with drive supplied to all four wheels via an independent four wheel drive system with an in-wheel motor at each corner.

The almost complete lack of front and rear overhangs take their inspiration from the ATV range of Suzuki's motorsycle division, and although no official figures have been given, approach and departure angles should be nothing short of spectacular.

As Suzuki approaches its 100th anniversary in 2020 the e-Survivor offers a forward glimpse at how a future compact off-roader from the brand might look for the next 100 years, while paying tribute to iconic styling of the Jimny and Vitara.

The e-Survivor won’t be alone on the Suzuki stand, with the small car specialist showing two concept versions of its boxy Spacia kei-car, one with a distinctly retro theme, and the other with a more modern, chrome-laden appearance.

Suzuki will also show its funky side with the XBee (pronounced cross bee), a micro-sized crossover displayed in regular, wood-panelled Outdoor Adventure, or more racey Street Adventure trims.
