With one eye on Asian markets where large sedans remain popular and another on the sales success of cars like Volkswagen Passat and Ford Mondeo, Citroen is banking on all-new versions of its once hot-selling C5 and C6 models to re-asserts its claims to the mainstream.

That’s the rationale behind its ‘C-xperience’ concept car (pictured) being wheeled-out at the Paris Motor Show.

The historic French brand says its separation from the up-scale DS range facilitates a more aggressive move into the mainstream, but adds it will always maintain its edgy design focus.

According to European media reports, the Citroen C-xperience measures 4.85-metres in length (about the same as the previous generation C6 which is still sold in China) – virtually identical to the latest Ford Mondeo.

While the new C3 due shortly follows in the design footsteps of the hip C4 Cactus, expect the replacements for the Citroen C5 and C6 to head in the direction of C-xperience.
