In a recent interview with US mag Automotive News (subscription only), Smart boss Anders-Sundt Jensen confirmed that the Daimler-owned producer of the microcars is working on an extended wheelbase that might lead to a return of the Forfour model.
Formats under consideration include a 2+1 and 2+2 layout, and while it might seem that a 2+2 would be the obvious smart choice (err... yup), a Forthree model isn’t out of the question, according to Jensen.
The original Smart Forfour, considered a ‘supermini’, was produced between 2004 and 2006. While the Forfour’s sales weren’t anything to write home about, the success of the Smart Fortwo has Mercedes-Benz considering a re-launching of the model.
