The number of Volkswagen-owned brands venturing into electric vehicles has grown again this week, with Skoda unveiling the all-electric Octavia Green E Line at the Paris Auto Show.

Building on technologies that will eventually feature across the Volkswagen range, dubbed e-mobility, the Octavia Green E Line is powered by an electric motor, producing 60kW (or a short-use maximum of 85kW) and 270Nm of torque.

One of the larger EV passenger cars, the Octavia Green E Line manages a claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of 12 seconds, with a top speed of 135km/h.

Energy for the electric Octavia's motor is provided by a 26.5kWh lithium ion battery park stored beneath the middle and rear floor sections.

Skoda promises a driving range of around 140km, giving city-dwellers a few days between recharges.

Inside, a screen in the dash provided continuous data including output, power consumption, battery charge and the remaining driving range.

The Octavia Green E Line has yet to be approved for a market introduction. Skoda however plans to launch a limited test fleet in 2011 to gather data for further development.
