Before it makes its public debut in September, the new Skoda Kodiaq seven-seat SUV has entered the teaser-cycle so loved by automakers.

In this instance Skoda has offered a pair of design sketches, outlining the basic form of the Kodiaq, as seen from front and rear.

As expected the Kodiaq adheres closely to the form language established by the VisionS plug-in hybrid concept that was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show.

Jozef Kaban, Skoda’s head of design described the need for the new SUV to convey a sense of ruggedness while still delivering an appropriate dash of style.

“The Kodiaq is the first model with the new Skoda SUV design language. It is powerful and emotive, but also timeless,” Kaban said.

“It is also robust, suits all types of terrain and offers the best flexibility and functionality.“

Although not yet revealed, Kaban made special mention of the SUV’s headlights, which will become part of Skoda’s latest visual signature, inspired by Czech crystal glass art.

The three-row SUV will offer a range of petrol and diesel four-cylinder engines, with optional front or all wheel drive. Measuring 4700mm, Skoda’s first three-row SUV will bridge the qap between medium and large SUVs.

Although an Australian debut is yet to be confirmed, it seems likely that the Kodiaq will be offered here, with SUVs playing a vital role in the local new car market.

More information will be rolled out in the months between now and the Kodiaq’s September debut, and we’ll keep you up to date on developments.
