Renault has announced the release of the Clio RS 200 Australian Grand Prix Limited Edition today, ahead of this weekend's 2011 F1 Championship season-opener in Melbourne.

With Red Bull driver Mark Webber on hand, whose team uses Renault engines, Renault Australia MD Justin Hocevar said the special run of Clio RS 200 cars commemorates the company's Formula 1 success.

“Enthusiasm for Renault has grown as a result of Mark Webber being powered by our Formula 1 engines over the past few seasons, and of course Renault powered Red Bull to the World Constructors’ and Drivers’ Championships in 2010. In 2011 Renault is powering a full 25 percent of all entries in the Formula 1 Championship," Mr Hocevar said.

“I am confident the new Clio R.S. 200 Australian Grand Prix Limited Edition car will become an instant classic."

Limited to just 30 examples, the Clio RS 200 Australian GP LE is offered in Renault's signature yellow and with a black painted roof and roof spoiler. There are also black Speedline Cup wheels and gloss black exterior highlights.

Inside, the Clio RS 200 Australian GP LE gets Renault Sport Recardo front sport seats and a Renault Sport monitor (a first for the Clio).

Other interior features include:

  • height-adjustable driver's seat
  • height and reach adjustable Renault Sport leather steering wheel with a yellow centre band
  • leather gear knob
  • drilled aluminium pedals
  • multi-function trip computer
  • auxiliary, Bluetooth and USB connectivity
  • 80W stereo with four speakers and two tweeters
  • climate control air conditioning
  • electronic front windows

Power remains unchanged from the regular Clio RS 200, with its 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine producing 147.5kW and 215Nm of torque.

Paired with a close ratio six-speed manual transmission and a 1281kg kerb weight, the Clio RS 200 Australian GP LE hits 100km/h in 6.9 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 225km/h.

Safety features include standard ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) Sports-tuned and switchable ESP (Electronic Stability Program), front, lateral and curtain airbags, height adjustable three-point front seatbelts with pretensioner and load limiter, cruise control with speed limiter and automatic headlights and wipers.
