Technically developed as a tribute to last year's championship winning RB8 (this year's racer being the RB9), the timing of availability for Australian showrooms has made this special hot-hatch something of a two-timer.
Launching as a contender for ‘longest car name of 2013’ the limited edition hot hatch is officially called the Renault Megane RS 265 Red Bull Racing RB8 (let’s just call it the ‘Megane RB8’).
The Megane RB8 wears small Red Bull logos on its sides, along with Bridgestone performance tyres on 19-inch wheels and an exclusive ‘Dusk Blue’ paint finish, inspired by the Red Bull F1 car.
Inside, there’s Recaro front seats with red seat belts, the R-Link multimedia system with TomTom Live satellite navigation and red highlights around the steering wheel and dash.
Each car features individually numbered floor mats and kick-plates inside the doors which also carry Red Bull signage.
For track-day fans, the latest ‘RS Monitor’ system lets you record GPS-tracked lap times, power output data and G-force readouts via a USB port. It even features a special Red Bull Racing home page.
The Megane RB8 is powered by the same 265 HP (195kW) 2.0 litre turbocharged engine from the regular Megane RS 265, with the RB8 being the first Megane RS to feature stop/start fuel-saving technology.
“We are delighted to celebrate the fourth consecutive Formula 1 World Championship victory for Sebastian Vettel and the Red Bull Racing Team with the release of this latest Red Bull Limited Edition Megane RS 265,” Managing Director of Renault Australia, Justin Hocevar, said.
“The Megane RS 265 has been exceptionally well-received in Australia by sporting car enthusiasts, and we are confident this new RB8 version will enhance that level of excitement still further.”
The Renault Megane RS 265 Red Bull Racing RB8 is on sale now, priced at $49,990 plus on-roads and limited to just 120 units for Australian customers.
