Renault has completed its ‘trifecta’ on extended factory warranties, expanding the program to cover its light commercial van range.

But while it’s now possible to extend the warranty on vans from three years to four or five years, buyers will need to purchase the extended warranty with prices starting from $1090.

The 24/7 roadside assistance program will also extend along with the warranty, but the maximum distance of 200,000km will remain regardless of the warranty period.

With the addition on its vans to the extended warranty scheme, every Renault sold in Australia can now be had with up to five years factory warranty.

In April 2011, Renault introduced the scheme for its standard passenger cars only as a five-year unlimited kilometre program, before expanding the program to cover RS and GT models last month.

The scheme for vans will be backdated to August 1, but the extended warranty must be purchased when the vehicle is new and cannot be added later in the van’s life.

Capped-price servicing will remain as before, but Renault says there is no obligation to service the vehicle within the Renault dealer network provided all required services are completed.

“The new Renault LCV Extended Manufacturer Warranty provides customers with certainty around the total cost of ownership beyond the standard warranty period, and can both improve resale value and the ease of resale,” Renault Australia’s Lyndon Healey said.

“We have maintained all the terms and conditions of the standard three-year/ 200,000km warranty into the fourth and fifth years, which is a major advantage over many aftermarket warranties that often include numerous exclusions and limitations.”

Mr Healey said the 200,000km maximum distance would typically suit all Kangoo owners, most Trafic owners and more than half of Master customers.
