Queensland’s road toll is on track to be the lowest in more than five years according to current figures, while six of the other seven Australian states and territories have seen a rise so far in 2014.

The state’s peak motoring group, the RACQ, believes the current toll of 72 marks a somewhat ‘positive’ start to 2014, when compared with the toll of 105 at the same time last year (down 31 percent).

Queensland saw 272 road deaths in 2013, down from 280 the year before and if current trends continue, the 2014 toll could be as low as 190.
