Niche carmaker Puritalia has revealed its upcoming 427 roadster, following the release of a single teaser image last month.

Drawing on the spirit of the legendary Shelby Cobra, Puritalia says it has added "a touch of Italian design that allows the brutal soul to remain unchanged".

With a guppy-like mouth, the 427 sports the familiar side-mounted exhaust tips (along with tips at the rear), round headlights and flared rear guards, while bringing a sharpened edge to the profile and character lines.

Power for the 427 will be provided by a 332kW 5.0 litre V8 engine in its standard form, and a supercharged version will deliver 451kW.

Drive is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission, aluminium driveshaft and limited-slip differential.

Puritalia also lists fully independent suspension, adjustable shocks and sway bars, and braking is managed by six-piston Brembo calipers on 380mm discs at the front, and four-piston calipers on the 345mm rear discs.

All of this is packed into an aluminium semi-monocoque body with chromoly steel tubular subframes, wrapped in composite and carbon-fibre body panels. Kerb weight is listed at 1089kg, with a 50/50 weight distribution.

The all-important performance figures have not been released, but with those sorts of figures, a sub-5.0 second 0-100km/h sprint is likely.
