Peugeot is set to unveil a concept open-top version of its RCZ sports coupe at this week’s Geneva Motor Show.

Dubbed 'RCZ View Top', the new concept features a folding centre roof section, differing from conventional fabric ragtops (like Fiat’s 500C) by using segments of glass linked with fabric to create a laced sunroof effect when closed.

The new roof system has been developed by Austrian firm Magna Steyr, which has produced the hardtop RCZ since its 2010 introduction.

Magna also builds the new mini Paceman and Countryman models, along with the aluminium body of Mercedes-Benz’s SLS AMG and the G-Class four-wheel-drive since its 1979 introduction.

Peugeot claims that the View Top’s roof can be opened in 12 seconds, and considering the roof’s main structural members are maintained, rigidity should be little affected.

The View Top’s production future will likely be determined by public reaction to its Geneva appearance, but given the potential of an open-top for boosting the RCZ’s niche-market appeal, a showroom debut seems likely.
