French carmaker PSA Peugeot-Citroen has released artwork and details of a new technology intended to combat drowsiness and the stress of gridlock.
Described as a “holistic approach to total physical, social and mental well being”, the ‘Chrysalide’ cabin is designed to help motorists maintain a sunny disposition through the drudgery of the daily commute.
The concept centres on a dashboard camera system that analyses facial expressions, detecting fatigue, stress and irritation.
The system responds to those triggers with sights, sounds, fragrances and tactile elements - all designed to keep from distracting - to soothe or energise the driver.
The concept’s technologies include massaging seats and customisable programming to allow the driver to choose the experience that appeals to them most.
The system also purifies the cabin air, using a pollution-control system that is already available in the Chinese market.
Certain elements of the concept, including the air purifier and a three-dimensional ‘Spatial Sound’ system are expected to appear in Peugeot, Citroen and DS models from 2016.
