Peugeot's SXC and Urban Crossover concepts have come one step closer to a production future this week, with the online unveiling of the 2008 design study.

Just as Mazda's sharp Shinari concept morphed into the later Takeri and then the upcoming 2013 Mazda6, the 2008 concept pushes the earlier designs into a more market-ready realm.

As with the Urban, the 2008 gets larger headlights and a broader grille, along with a taller bumper and a new lower grille flanked by narrowed side intakes.

The profile of the 2008 concept reveals a taller glasshouse for greater headroom, along with a hooked character line framed at the rear end by sharp arrowhead tail-lights.

Peugeot has also added an upkicked hook to the top of the rear door frame, merging with the one-piece roof-rack sill.

Measuring 4140mm long and 1740mm wide, the concept is on the smaller end of the crossover segment: the larger 4008 is 200mm longer, and even Opel's little Mokka is 140mm longer.

Mechanical details for the concept have not been revealed, although it likely utilises a version of the platform underpinning the new 208 hatch, and its engines.

Watch for Peugeot to reveal further details at the Paris Motor Show later this month.
