According to British magazine Car, the new convertible will debut instead with its own unique look.
"This car demands a new name, it will look nothing like an Astra," GM Europe design boss Mark Adams was quoted by Car this week.
The report follows confirmation earlier this year that Opel will reveal a new convertible in time for the 2013 model year, although few details have been revealed.
Facing off against the likes of Volkswagen's Eos (although the arrival of the new Golf Cabriolet puts a question mark over the Eos), Opel's new convertible is expected to utilise the Astra's platform.
The replacement for the Astra Convertible is also likely to stick with a soft-top arrangement, rather than the folding hard-top that was offered with the previous Astra version.
Opel in Australia
Opel will make its Australian debut in 2012, launching with the Insignia medium sedan and wagon, the Astra small hatch and the light Corsa hatch.
