Opel is reportedly working on a high-riding CrossFour version of its stylish Insignia Sports Tourer wagon, with a view to battling the likes of the Subaru Outback and the new Volkswagen Passat Alltrack.
A pair of images have surfaced online this week, offering a glimpse of what we might expect to see. It remains to be seen if the images are kosher, but Spanish website Terra.es claims that they have come directly from Opel.
Taking a few tips from the Outback recipe, the Insignia CrossFour would likely get a toughened-up all-wheel-drive system and Opel's FlexRide adaptive damping gear, along with a rear locking differential.
Power for the Insignia CrossFour will reportedly come from the 118kW version of the Insignia's 2.0 litre turbodiesel at the entry end, moving up to the newer 143kW bi-turbo mill for higher-spec variants.
Opel is expected to give the Insignia CrossFour a proper unveiling in the coming weeks.
Whether we'll see the high-riding wagon in the brand's Australian line-up later this year is very uncertain, although a well-priced rival for the strong-selling Outback would make sense in this market.
